Love this series! Each book just gets better and better )
What a book! So many characters and so many things that went wrong. I was laughing my head off because of the wit and hilarious scenarios that took place.i love jane and Derrick and I can't wait to read their story.the author did an excellent job. The plot was ridiculously mind blowing but utterly engaging and funny. Love this book!!!
Don't quite know how to review this, because on the one hand, i felt the ruse was a bit too far-fetched to believe that it could work. But on the other hand, putting everything aside, and totally immersing oneself, you'd enjoyed seeing the hero learning and loving the difference that is the heroine. sounds confusing? read on and you'll know what i mean )
A lighthearted read, with witty dialogue and interesting characters. The plot isn't exactly scintillating Girl has been in love with Boy since their childhood, he is promised to someone else. The plot involves a very involved plot to convince Boy to marry Girl, not the Promised One. If you suspend belief, it makes for an easy book, sort of like easy-listening radio. The second book, The Unlikely Lady, however, is a pass. Don't bothah.
I couldn't read all of this. The plot was thin, illogical and generally annoying and improbably. In addition, I avoided many pages, the step by step instructions were nauseating. I'm quite sure the vast majority of people in this era did not behave as described. Particularly outside of marriage in these years. I won't buy another. This is a modern stories in old styles. Not my thing at all.
Second book in Playful Brides series. Not as good as the first. Many of the same characters. Lady Cassandra Monroe is one of the most blubbering heroines I've ever read. Between her guilt, doormat personality, and constant crying, it was difficult to get through this book. I hung in there hoping that the next book in the series involving Jane Lowndes and Garrett Upton will be better. Julian Swift is passable as the hero but the entire plot is so convoluted and ridiculous. I originally gave this 2 stars until I started to write the review. I then had to demote to 1 star.
First off, I'm a woman. My account is in my husband's name. Okay, on to the review. This was a really cute and funny story. Imagine Lucille Ball (from I Love Lucy) scheming and plotting to get you some alone time with the man you've loved for years. And the friend's name is actually Lucy! Right after the half-way mark in the book, I began to laugh out loud at what was happening and going on. Lucy cooks up some zany plot to get Cassandra (they are both best friends) some alone time with Julian (a man who has been away for 7 years at war). Cassandra has been secretly in love with Julian since she was 16 years old. But Julian is engaged to Cassandra's cousin. It's a long, complicated story - so you have to read it! It's too complicated to write down, especially the zany plot/scheme!

It was a really fun book and I read it in one day (I'm a fast reader). The two main characters - Cassandra and Julian - are perfect for each other.

I know that Jane's story is next. But I'm hoping Valerie Bowman will write a fun story for Penelope. Penelope has the potential to be as hilarious as Lucy!
