A Virgin River Christmas Virgin River Book 4 Robyn Carr 9780778325734 Books
I've never read anything by Robyn Carr, but I was interested in the military aspect of the book. In the beginning I thought Marcie came across as a wimpy kind of loser but then once she finds Ian her personality changes. She becomes more assertive in several ways. The language gets coarser and the pheremones fill the air. The difference was noticeable although I'm not sure that was intentional or not. Ms Carr did have me in tears as Marcie described how the entire family took care of Bobby and his last day. All in all I enjoyed the story. I may have to read the entire series if it's as good as other reviewers say.Tags : A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River, Book 4) [Robyn Carr] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Welcome back to Virgin River with the books that started it all

Last Christmas Marcie Sullivan said a final goodbye to her husband,Robyn Carr,A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River, Book 4),MIRA,0778325733,10009276,115026X,20081101,707220,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,FICTION General,FICTION Romance Contemporary,FICTION Romance General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Romance,General Adult,MASS MARKET,Monograph Series, any,Romance - Contemporary,RomanceModern,Romance: Modern,Romance;Americana;Contemporary,United States
A Virgin River Christmas Virgin River Book 4 Robyn Carr 9780778325734 Books Reviews
Wow! My first Robyn Carr and now I know why she has such a large readership. Although I came into the series at book 4 it didn't matter. I can't wait to read the others. The romantic elements were so well done and carefully/realistically pace. What was even better was the exploration of the two characters' grief and need to move ahead. I cried several times during the book. EXCELLENT!
Carr has written a true love story in A Virgin River Christmas.
A woman looking for club shrew and a man looking to be left alone make for an incredible story of what they thought they wanted and how they couldn't have been more wrong.
This novel is filled with dynamic, well-written characters who drive the story of heartbreak and finding love home.
I highly recommend this book to fans of the genre.
Loved this book, love the town of Virgin River. Marcie spends days looking for her late husband's best friend, a mountain man who bares his teeth and then growls at her- the start of a sweet romance.
In this wonderful romantic story, Marci Sullivan has lost her husband Bobby who had been seriously injured in Iraq. She cared for him for four years before he died. His Marine partner, Ian Buchanan, had saved his life. However, Ian has suffered mentally from the war incidents, resigning the Marines, and living a reclusive life in a forest in northern California. Marcie had frequently corresponded with Ian, but suddenly she does not receive any responses. She has grown fond of him during this time but when he stopped writing she has to locate him. And she does find him during Christmas season in the cold, snowy mountains. This a tender, well written story which I found very enchanting. Highly recommend.
One of the Virgin River series, this is a great tale written in the inimical Carr style that keeps us familiar with several other characters in this little mountain town while helping us know Marcie Sullivan, an Iraq widow whose husband's best friend, Ian Buchanan, has disappeared after Bobby's shattered body is returned home to be cared for by his wife for three years before he dies. Marcie needs closure and seems to think that giving her late husband's baseball cards to Ian will begin her movement toward acceptance so that she can move forward. But Ian has been hiding behind a bushy beard and on a mountain away from people except when he chooses to interact with others.
Their first reconnect is just plain scary for her, but also for him as she worms her way into his life and begins to help him show his sweet, caring side, the side that saved her husband from death thousands of miles away from home.
Virgin River helps both of these compelling characters to heal so that they can move ahead. Perhaps even together! Merry Christmas!
"Ian had saved Bobby's life. He didn't make it out whole, but still -- Ian had braved death to carry Bobby to safety. And then he'd disappeared."
THE STORY Marcie Sullivan is a widow at the age of 27 after her husband came back from Iraq severely injured. He survived for several more years and his injuries were devastating. Now that he has died, Marcie is on a quest to find and thank the man who saved her husband's life in Iraq. Ian Buchanan was emotionally wounded by the event in Iraq and has dropped out of civilized society. Marcie's search has brought her to Virgin River. When she finds Ian, she discovers a man both deeply wounded by his past but also surviving very well on his own. When the two are forced together, they begin to build a relationship that helps both let go of the past.
OPINION A book about grief, pain and letting go of the past, this book is incredibly sweet and also filled with pain and rejection and determination. Both Marcie and Ian are determined to live their own lives despite the wishes of those around them. I especially liked their combined stubborn natures and how they interact with one another. Ian ends up being one of the sweetest heroes even as he is a tough customer. Marcie is gentle and yet strong and determined. The combination of character works to build depth to the story. Although billed as a Christmas story, this is definitely a fully developed novel that does not overly rely on the Christmas theme but rather uses it to give additional depth to the story and gives readers a view into a Virgin River Christmas.
WORTH MENTIONING This book is more self-contained than others in the series. There is less information about the town although significant people such as Mel and Jack make appearances. The events of this story take place during WHISPERING ROCK.
FINAL DECISION A book about finding a new path after loss, this book is sweet and yet also strong and redemptive.
CONNECTED BOOKS A VIRGIN RIVER CHRISTMAS is book 4 of the Virgin River series. This book can be read as a standalone.
STAR RATING I give this book 4.25 stars.
