STORY BRIEF:
Sam is part of a U.S. Black Ops group after bad guy Nader in Honduras. Nader arranges for a car bomb to kill Sam's sister back in the States. Sam retires from the group in grief and now works with his dad on a horse ranch.

Abbie is a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas and a part-time college student. Her younger brother Cory has been buying Honduran knick-knacks and shipping them to Abbie to store for him. He plans to start a business selling them. Somehow he got roped in to carrying drugs for Nader. Cory wants to quit, but Nader won't let him. Cory's friend Derek stole a necklace from Nader (who had stolen it from a museum). Derek manages to give it to Cory before he dies. Cory goes into hiding, knowing Nader will think he is guilty and kill him.

The Black Ops group discovers that Abbie may be linked to Nader through Cory. Sam starts dating Abbie for the purpose of getting information. They sleep together. Then she discovers his true purpose and is furious, hurt, and hates him. Next she receives an email showing that Nader has been torturing Cory. Nader tells Abbie to bring him the necklace in return for Cory's life. Sam and Abbie go to Honduras with the Black Ops group.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
I'm pleased. This did not use the overused devices of conflict caused by heroine stupidity and conflict between the couple based on vague communication and inaccurate assumptions. I could enjoy the story. However, I had issues with a couple of things in Spoilers below. This is typical Black Ops romantic suspense. I feel like I've read the story many times before. And that's ok if that's your mood, but it could have used some surprise and the unexpected. The characters and relationship development also were like others I've read before - ok, but nothing unusual or different. The sex scenes were fine.

I compliment the author on the conflicts between Sam and Abbie in the beginning. I enjoyed watching Sam dating her "undercover." I also enjoyed the way she arranged things later to force Sam to help her. That was smart.

I loved M. Junkins' comment in her Amazon review. "It wasn't the best book I've read but it beats whats on TV." Yes!

CAUTION SPOILERS:
In this type of story I expect the Black Ops guy to kill Nader the first chance he gets - maybe a sniper shot. I don't expect him to act like a good ole' U.S. cop and read someone their rights or bring them in for trial. Nader was into drugs, arms, and supporting terrorist enemies of the U.S. So why was Sam reluctant to kill Nader when he had the chance? All of a sudden he is not going to kill him in cold blood. He later shoots when Nader pulls a gun making it self-defense. This didn't feel right to me. I thought Black Ops were guys who did NOT follow the rules. Killing Sam's sister confused the issue. If that's all Nader did, then I might see reason for hesitation. But Sam's objective had been to stop the guy, which meant kill him. I suppose it's possible the U.S. government wanted Nader alive, but that should have been made clear in order to justify Sam's hesitation. But if so, I didn't see any evidence that would put him and keep him in a U.S. jail. Ok, I'm going way too far with this. On balance, this was muddled for me.

Another scene was a little off. Sam has a gun on Nader and could easily kill him. But instead they talk until a distraction happens and Nader is able to get away. Ok, a little campy James Bondishness going on here.

Love the Black Ops books. Each book has just the right mixture of suspense, drama and romance. Each character has his story and yet they always works together.
Love this series!
The second a great series. Both hero & heroine are very believable & so are the backgrounds. Nobody is a superman & & some are only too human in their faults, but the sizzle & tense moments are there in full measure. Another great read to add to your collection
This book was an infuriating journey. The heroine, Abbie, and her brother Cory, ruined the entire book for me.

In the beginning, Abbie is a beautiful cinnamon roll, too pure for this world. Seriously, I couldn't stop smiling with her or feeling bad that Sam lied to her about his intentions. Pretty fast though, she starts touching TSTL territory and I found her annoying. And the worst of them all she can't stop defending her brother Cory even though he doesn't deserve to be defended.

It doesn't matter he got into drug smuggling, wanted to steal diamonds even though he had the chance to escape, and gave information about Abbie to the bad guys and almost got her killed. Oh no, let's defend him because the fact that he had a rough childhood and he suffered dyslexia (something she doesn't stop mentioning) justifies everything bad he's done.

I couldn't care for the kid. I don't believe in excuses based on your background. If you do something bad you do something bad. Everyone has choices and he made his. He could've died for all I care, and honestly, this is one of the few books where I wish the hero and heroine wouldn't have ended up together. Delusional, I know, this is romance. But Sam deserved better.

If I had to rate the book based on him and the BOIs (especially Gabe's cameo) it would be a 5 stars reading. I've been waiting for Sam's story since I met him in the last book of the Bodyguard series (Into the Dark) and got to know more of him in the first book of this series (Show No Mercy).

But there was too much focus on characters who were annoying and had no redeeming qualities.

***OVERALL

After the incredible beginning the Black Ops series had, 'Take no Prisoners' was a disappointment to me regarding the heroine and her brother. It was annoying to read about them and it made me lose interest in the book pretty fast.

If you're a fan of heroines who like to justify the unjustifiable and cross TSTL territory every once in a while, this is your book.

I would skip it TBH. Sam's worth reading but you can know plenty about him if you read the books I mentioned above.
Had hard time putting this one down. Its a real nail biter. But getting relaxed with your beverage of choice and don't forget the snacks. It's great. I've read these books 5 times so far. I leave some time between my reads but that's how good they are.
Robert Burns wrote... "The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley" which John Steinbeck macked on, pretty much sums up this story. Sam's plans...? Not gonna happen unless he sings for his supper. Racy, edgy and hot. Watch Sam Sing! Great Read!
But I've read this plot 100 times. Guy wants justice for murdered sister. So he drags innocent woman into story because he believes she's involved. They date, she falls in love, then Guy uses girl, lies about who he is, sleeps with her, lies to her, blackmailed her, intraps her, scares her to death and not even 24 hours later, she's physical with him again, and wants to peruse a RELATIONSHIP with him???.... No. Just, no. I can't love a story after that. I can't respect either character.
